We are excited to announce a 4-week beginner’s partner Balboa course. Balboa is appreciated for its elegance, efficiency on the dance floor, and the challenge of mastering its subtleties.
Balboa is a swing dance style that originated in Southern California during the 1920s and 1930s. It’s known for its close embrace, intricate footwork, and smooth, subtle movements. Here’s an overview:
- Close Hold: Balboa is typically danced in a close, chest-to-chest position, making it ideal for crowded dance floors.
- Footwork-Focused: The dance emphasizes fast, precise footwork rather than large, dramatic movements.
- Connection and Flow: The connection between partners is central, allowing for seamless transitions and a fluid style.
- Two Styles:
- Pure Balboa is danced entirely in a closed position with minimal movement from the upper body.
- Bal-Swing incorporates more open movements, spins, and variations while maintaining the Balboa feel.
- Music Tempo: It’s often danced to fast swing or jazz music, but it can also adapt to slower tempos.
Over the course, you’ll learn a short routine that can either be danced in sequence or mixed up for a more social feel—perfect for building your confidence on the dance floor.
